PowerUp Club - Bakery Series
“Welcome to the Puppy Bakery!”
“That’ll be 3 dollars, please!”
This summer was truly special at AllStars Learning. Inside the classroom, a group of children with special learning needs stepped into new roles—cashiers and customers—for the very first time. There was a little nervousness, plenty of curiosity, and so much excitement in the air. With each transaction, they weren’t just practicing reading and math; they were finding the courage to connect, to smile, and to greet the world in their own way.
A Brave First Step
At the beginning, the children were so shy they could hardly speak. With gentle guidance from the teacher and support from the volunteers, every little step was broken down with patience, making it easier for the children to grasp. They tried writing menus, coming up with a name for their bakery, and practicing phrases like, “Hello, what would you like?” Essentially, the classroom transformed into their very own “safe practice space.”
From Menus to Money
In this fun and playful setting, the children explored everyday words while boosting their ability to express themselves and keep track of things. Game-like activities helped them understand basic concepts and practical skills in an enjoyable way. Through interactive exercises, they experienced real-life communication, building confidence in social situations. Every small action and every word spoken was a meaningful step toward the courage and skills they will need for independent living.
Warm Encouragement
When a child said, “Thank you, bye bye” for the first time, the whole class applauded, celebrating his courage. When a child successfully gave change on his own for the first time, his smile was sweeter than any candy. At AllStars Learning, every attempt is noticed, and every achievement is celebrated.
Little Surprises, Big Courage
On the last day, teachers prepared small toys and puzzles as raffle prizes. The children left with smiles, little gifts, and a sense of accomplishment that belonged entirely to them. This isn’t just about cake or money. It’s the first time the children are truly using life skills and taking their first steps in communicating with the world.
Thank You to All Who Supported Us
The Bakery Series came to a successful close. The children moved from hesitation to speech, from doubt to confidence, and every small change was deeply touching. We are grateful for the patience and trust of parents, our teacher, and volunteers, who made this summer warm, meaningful, and full of joy.
